Update from the treasurer:

At Prestongrange we hold two types of funds. The first of these is unrestricted from which day to day outgoings are taken-utilities, fabric and maintenance, salaries, manse council tax, payment to Church of Scotland towards work of the wider church.
Our second type of fund is the restricted one where donations are received for a specific purpose. Over recent years these have mainly focussed on the roof project (now coming to a close), internal redecoration, automation of the clock, building work on the organ loft, organ and piano fund and the flower fund. After flowers are placed in the church they are then given to members/friends in the community.
Over recent years members of the church and wider community have been very supportive with their donations and fundraising for these restricted funds for specific purposes. As well as generous donations to the local foodbank.
The income for use in unrestricted purposes, named above, mostly comes from the weekly offerings from the congregations, including standing orders. We are able to claim gift aid of 25% more from those who are tax payers. We are also able to claim a further 25% on monies received in the open plate.
Over recent years the income to the church for day to day spending has been gradually decreasing, though generosity towards specific purposes has increased.
We as a church community with the Kirk Session and Board, in the current unsettled financial climate, need to consider other ways of maintaining our income and where possible increasing it. As individuals we are all aware personal income is not keeping in line with rising costs of living, but we as a church should pray and trust our God to keep our church financially healthy.
